INTERSTATE 80 IN PENNSYLVANIA IS A HIGHLY TRAVELED ROADWAY AND IS USED BY MANY TRACTOR TRAILER TRUCKS, SEMI TRUCKS, DUMP TRUCKS, AND COAL TRUCKS.
The traffic on Interstate 80 keeps increasing, and with the traffic comes an increase in accidents and injuries. Many of these crashes result from reckless driving, speeding, alcohol or drugs, cell phone use, inattentiveness, fatigue, improper maintenance of a vehicle, or an unsecured or unbalanced truck load.
Pennsylvania has nearly 120,000 miles of roads and highways and every year approximately 100 billion vehicle-miles are driven on the state’s roadways. Even if you are the most careful of drivers, you can wind up in a crash caused by a negligent, intoxicated, reckless, or distracted driver.
According to the Pennsylvania Crash Report, there were 127,127 reportable traffic crashes in Pennsylvania in 2015. These crashes claimed the lives of 1,200 people and injured another 82,004 people. In 2016, Pennsylvania saw the lowest number of traffic fatalities on record — 1,188 — but this is still a high number. Due to the size of the vehicles and the speed involved, accidents on roadways such as Route 80 generally involve more severe and complicated injuries, and even death.
If you or a loved one has been injured or someone has died in a crash on Route 80 or any other Pennsylvania road, you may be entitled to financial compensation to cover your medical expenses, lost wages, property loss, and loss of life’s pleasures. However, if your case is not handled correctly, you may never get the compensation you deserve.
Truck accidents may be guided, in part, by federal law because of interstate commerce commission supervision of interstate trucking. Almost all of these cases involve state law, such as Pennsylvania’s Financial Responsibility Law. Cliff Rieders wrote “the book” on financial responsibility law in Pennsylvania. Rieders has been instrumentally involved in the creation and development of that law since its inception. When you call somebody about truck and vehicle accidents on Route 80 or anywhere, you want somebody who knows the law. Call the lawyer who other lawyers call when they have difficult problems in this field.

Interstate 80 is part of a federal highway system that allows people to travel across the entire country. I-80 connects New York City to Chicago and continues all the way to San Francisco. In Pennsylvania, the highway goes 311 miles from the New Jersey border at Delaware Water Gap to the Ohio border near Sharon.
While Interstate 80 does not have a connection to the major cities of Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, it does connect several medium-sized cities, including Stroudsburg, Bloomsburg, Danville and Williamsport. It also connects to north-south interstate highways such as I-476, 1-81 and I-79.
Since the 1-80 route is so vital to transportation and is heavily traveled through hilly and mountainous terrain that gets a lot of snow during the winter, the road has seen many major accidents. Crashes on the interstate happen at high speeds and often involve large tractor trailers and recreational vehicles, as well as passenger vehicles and motorcycles, so it is no wonder that major injuries and fatalities occur.
I-80 was voted one of the “worst roads” by the readers of Overdrive magazine for most of the 1990s, but its record is improving. This is largely due to the commitment of the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) to making our roadways safer. PennDOT has rebuilt most of the 311 miles of the highway from the ground up.
