Pradaxa

Have you or someone you love taken Pradaxa to reduce the risk of stroke and blood clots with respect to your heart arrhythmia (non-valvular atrial fibrillation (AF)) and then developed excessive bleeding or hemorrhage? In April of 2013 the FDA added three new black box warnings, the most serious type of warning the FDA can give a drug, warning the public that Pradaxa can cause serious thrombotic or bleeding events, and that discontinuing Pradaxa without anti-coagulation can increase your risk of suffering a stroke.

Early trials showed Pradaxa had lower risk of stroke

Pradaxa was approved in October 2010 after the RE-LY clinical trial allegedly showed that Pradaxa had lower risk of stroke than Coumadin (warfarin.) However, because Pradaxa has no known antidote there is no way to control the bleeding that may occur as a side effect of the drug. However, the manufacturer continues to deny that the bleeding is unmanageable and claims Pradaxa poses no greater risk, despite the climbing adverse event reports compared with warfarin which has been the standard of care for over fifty years.
