Many situations involve the very devastating effects of brain injury. Brain injury can be caused by a traumatic event such as an automobile accident, a fall or by substandard medical care.
The Rieders Travis Law Firm handles brain injury cases from a variety of perspectives. Brain injury cases require very deliberate preparation. Sometimes those brain injuries are subtle and sometimes they are more dramatic. Oftentimes it is necessary to compare records from before the event and those afterwards. It may be necessary to review school records and even to hire the services of a specialist such as a neuropsychologist.
In a recent case very successfully handled by our office, a physician cut a shunt during abdominal surgery which had been put in place when our client earlier in her life suffered from encephalitis. The shunt was intended to drain brain fluid from the brain down into the abdomen. As a result of the fact that the shunt was cut during abdominal surgery, the patient suffered brain damage. That brain damage was difficult to evaluate, assess and diagnose. Our office in essence created a model of the patient's life using video and computer analysis in order to show the damages suffered by our client. Similar sophisticated techniques are utilized in our trauma cases as well. Brain injury cases can also involve trauma from birth, medications and other causes as well.
